Several members of the Piqua police and fire departments were recognized March 31 during the 11th annual Miami County Law Enforcement–Fire Awards Ceremony, held at the Arbogast Performing Arts Center in Troy.

The event, hosted by the Miami County Fraternal Order of Police, partners with the Miami County Chiefs of Police and the Miami County Fire and Emergency Chiefs Association to honor exemplary service, bravery and professionalism among first responders across the county.

The Piqua Police Department recognized three officers for outstanding achievements:

Officer Madeline Ruetenik was named the department’s 2025 Officer of the Year. Ruetenik was selected by her peers for her consistent performance, leadership and dedication to professional growth. She ranked among the department’s top performers in arrests, offenses and total incidents handled in 2025, while also taking on additional responsibilities and shift assignments to support departmental needs.

Lieutenant Christopher Yingst received a Lifesaving Award for his actions during an emergency response involving a juvenile who had stopped breathing. Upon arrival, Yingst immediately initiated CPR and continued lifesaving efforts until paramedics arrived. The individual was transported to a hospital and ultimately recovered.

Officer Connor Armstrong also received a Lifesaving Award for his quick response during a choking emergency involving a young child at a community event. Armstrong administered the Heimlich maneuver, successfully dislodging an obstruction and preventing a potentially fatal outcome.

The Piqua Fire Department was also represented at the ceremony, with Luke Lindeman recognized as EMS Provider of the Year. The award honors an outstanding emergency medical services professional who demonstrates exceptional dedication, skill and commitment to patient care. Lindeman, a paramedic and firefighter, is recognized as a leader in the local EMS community, contributing through education, training and the development of programs that strengthen both EMS and fire services. He is known for his strong clinical skills, teamwork and ability to mentor others in both field and classroom settings.

City officials extend their congratulations to all award recipients for their commitment to public safety and their service to the Piqua community.
